The Paralelo Avenue (Parallel in English) is an avenue that starts from the emblematic Spanish Square to the World Trade Center, located at the bottom of the port. It is a busy public road.

In the twentieth century the life of the parallel was shameless, their cabarets were an oasis of freedom in Barcelona of Francoism. The "Molino" is a clear example of the time, opened its doors in 1910, imitating the renowned Parisian cabaret Moulin Rouge. The "Molino" presented bold shows with the most famous vedettes of the moment. In 1977 the symbol of the Barcelona night closed its doors.

Nowadays, thanks to the citizens’ movement, the Paralelo Avenue sees the emblematic blades of the "Molino" facing the facade again. Together with other theaters such as Apollo, Victoria, Condal and Barts, they give the Paralelo Avenue a night-time atmosphere that allows us to qualify it as "the Barcelona's Broadway".

This avenue was created within the so-called “Cerdà plan”, the urban planning initiative that also gave birth to the Eixample District.
Back then, this area was nothing more than an area of orchards and industrial fields, so it is not surprising that even after its inauguration it was still a quagmire on rainy days.

Gratis in Barcelona Although it was inaugurated with another name, it quickly became known as Paralelo Avenue, because the 41st parallel of Earth passes through this same place.

As this avenue was found in an agricultural and industrial area, next to the overcrowded Ciutat Vella district, it quickly became a meeting point for the lower classes. People started to build barracks that served as bars and showrooms of local shops.
Although its spirit never changed, today its offer is more varied than bars and theaters.
Right where the avenue begins, next to the port, you can find the Maritim Museum Drassanes Reials, the remains of the medieval wall, with the Santa Madrona portaland the Torre del Mar with Gothic-style. A few steps from there you have the Three Chimneys Park with its infinity of graffiti and its skatepark.
