The Botero’s cat is a sculpture made by the Colombian artist Fernando Botero that you can find at the end of the Rambla del Raval. It was installed in the Raval Quarter in 2004 but before finding a place in this promenade, it had been installed in other parts of Barcelona.
It was bought in 1987 and -amongst others- lived a while some time in the Ciutadella Park. The cat moved at least four times, maybe that’s why he looks a bit tired maybe?
The sculpture is a large and fat cat, built in bronze. It weighs more than 2 tons and measures 7 meters long by 2.50 meters high, not a cat that is easily bypassed. The design
lines clearly follow the round and voluptuous style of the famous painter and sculptor Fernando Botero.
According to the urban legend -and mandatory to try- you will visit Barcelona again in the future if… you touch his balls. We, Barcelona residents, like to believe that
for this reason his intimate parts shine more than any other part of the sculpture! We encourage you to rub them with passion…. or would you like to leave us forever?
