A few steps from the Rambla del Raval, in the unofficially known as the “Cats square“, you can find another exemple of the interventions that were made in many buildings facades around Barcelona.
It’s work of Arnal Ballester, a Barcelona’s painter and cartoonist and this facade become a symbol of the Raval Quarter. The artist says he started the work without knowing what he would do
in this huge canvas … and only when climbing a crane to start painting and see the roofs of neighboring buildings full of cats, was when the inspiration came: it would be the cats façade!
The artist was only responsible for the drawing of the “Chinese cat”, referring to the site where the building is located: the Raval Quarter is also known as “Chinatown”. Xavier Mas and Illo Tatxé have been the authors of the rest of the cats of this work.
