The Berenguer house is also known as Casimir Clapés House, named to its owner. This 1907 project aimed at the construction of a residential building reflecting the family business: a textile company.
The Clapés family, of very humble origin, managed to get into the upper bourgeoisie of Barcelona thanks to the hard work done in the textile industry. Hence, on the upper
ledge of the facade, a female figure, can be seen with a loom in her hands.
The entire façade has a laborious work of carved stone, with large cantilevered balconies. The floral work done on stone is incredibly laborious and delicate.
The project was carried out by the Bassegoda i Amigó brothers, who also did the
Rocamora Houses on
Paseo de Gràcia.
