Located in Right Eixample Quarter, the Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes avenue is suddenly broken in the central section of this avenue by the presence of this monumental sculpture.
Venanci Vallmitjana, designed in 1911 this fountain dedicated to the goddess Diana the Huntress. The sculpture depicts the goddess seated at the top of a fountain; the figure
is wearing a tunic and carries the bow which helps us identify her. But, this wasn’t be the original representation of the Diana’s image. In 1898 during the Fine Art Exhibition the goddess
was portrayed naked, to the displeasure of the authorities of the time.
It’s a typical sculture with the taste for classical mythology and 19th-century elegance which mades this location as the perfect place for this fountain.
