In the heart of the Right Eixample Quarter, it is housed in an old textile factory from 1902 designed by the modernist architect Enric Sagnier, the Museum of Catalan Modernism, which opened its doors in 2010 with the intention of being able to show the private collection of the Barcelona antique dealers Fernando Pinos and María Guirao.
After 40 years dedicated to Catalan modernism, they gathered 350 works by the most influential and outstanding artists of Catalan modernism.
Modernism was an international movement originated in Europe at the end of the 19th century. Its essentially aesthetic foundations have their common link in the renewal of the arts and the
constant inspiration in nature, from which they extract their most characteristic symbols. In Catalonia, the movement was not only based on aesthetic aspects, but was extended to all levels,
being one of the territories that more political and intellectual charge to modernism.
The visit to the Museum of Modernism in Barcelona is essential for all art lovers and despite not being one of the “big museums” is becoming a gap in the museum space of
the city, with much of the blame for this success his collection of works by great artists such as Santiago Rusiñol, Gaspar Camps i Junyent, Ramón Casas and Antoni Gaudí.
