This church was designed by the great modernist architect Enric Sagnier. It is in the Left Eixample Quarter and despite being designed by one of the great architects of modernism in Barcelona, goes mainly unnoticed…
The temple is the only one in the entire Eixample district that has a Roman basilica
plan. Its facade has a Renaissance aspect and includes a colorful Venetian mosaic.
Inside near the main altar, there is a clock that marks the hours of the prayers that are worth visiting. It was made with typical Barcelona technique called "trencadís". It is not easy to
find the church opened, but maybe you are lucky!
There is another clock just as precious, although even more difficult to see: you can see it at the top of one of the bell towers. This was also built with the “trencadís” technique, with
strong colors that intensify when the sun shines on them.
The church was burned down in 1936 and was rebuilt after the end of the Spanish Civil War. The reconstruction was slow as it took about twelve years to complete.
