At number 105, on Roma avenue, we find in a façade, the famous cement sculpture in the form of a siphon with a clock in the middle. It is three or four times larger than a normal one, this siphon was installed by the family that owned the Siphons Puértolas factory in the year 1960.
This symbol is the only thing left in the building of what was once one of the largest companies in Siphons of Barcelona. Its origin dates back to the late nineteenth century when two brothers
from Zaragoza moved to Barcelona to start their business. He was the son of one of them, Agustí Puértolas, who at the end of the 40s of the last century bought the place to start his own
company in the same sector. Agustí says “If it was not because my grandfather had the idea to put that watch, nobody would remember the company”.
The factory changed its commercial name to Geiser and moved to Terrassa. Currently the factory has been converted into a car workshop. In 2006 the Barcelona City Council decided to “wind it
up” so that it would work and become Petit Paisatge.
In their time, the workers used it to check how much they had left for their workday. The clock was translucent, with a light bulb in
the back that made it stay lit at night and thus allow to visualize the time.
