“El Ingenio” is a unique establishment in the world. It was founded in 1838 by the family of sculptors Escaler in the street Rauric 6. The great craftsmen who founded “El Ingenio” passed the business in the twenties of the twentieth century in the midst of a severe economic crisis.

Delfi Homs, a salesman of figures of saints who had a little store near the cathedral, took over the establishment. His plans were to open an extension of his store but he realized that the tradition of selling party products was so rooted that he continued with the legacy of its founders. The Ingenio lived its stage of more splendor, with the permission of the Civil War and the postwar period.

Currently the establishment is run by Rosa Cardona, granddaughter of Delfi Homs and daughter of one of the great promoters of El Ingenio, Josep Carona. The Barcelona City Council is going to catalog the store an emblematic establishment of great interest that should be preserved in its entirety.
