On the Barceloneta’s Beach there is a sculpture that is a clear symbolism of the Barceloneta Quarter past: the wounded star.
This set of four disjointed cubes that pile up in a disorderly manner forming a tower 10 meters high, is a work of the German sculptor Rebecca Horn who pays homage to the past fisherman of this neighborhood.
In the year 1992 with the Olympics of Barcelona were about to begin, there was a great transformation of this city opening it to the sea and decorating it with innovative sculptures.
As always, there are two readings of the sculpture: One says that it is an immortalization of the stall of the time (simple deteriorated barracks), others say that it represents
the “quarters of flat” of the neighborhood of Barcelona, those small apartments of 30m2 emerged at the end of the XIX century.
The official version is much simpler: a star that crashed in this part of the beach.
