Some people say that the Lleó i Morera’s House is a family-size version of the Palau de la Música Catalana.
This house is located on the block known as the “manzana de la discórdia” (“block of discord” in English), where the
Amatller House, and the Batlló House are also located, in the heart of the Right Eixample.
Inside the house you will find sculptures made of wood, stained glass windows, ceramics, arts of mosaics… made by differents modernists designers.
In 1905, the Lleó Morera family commissioned the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner to totally refurbish their home which had stood on the Paseo de Gracia since 1864. The creative
endeavours of a considerable number of artists and artisans, who worked closely together under the supervision of the architect, resulted in an ensemble of outstanding quality.
A curiosity: in the year 1943, it was requested the reform of the ground floor of this building to open the store of the signature Loewe. During the works, most of it
architecture was destroyed without much consideration. Fortunately, the doorman of the building recovered “the heads”, which later sold them to Salvador Dalí, who
placed them in the patio wall of his Figueres Theatre-Museum.
