Just after the Barcelona Universal Exposition of 1888, the 2 bussines man and also partner fof the Montaner & Simon Editorial, decide to built their palaces on the Right Eixample Quarter.
The first of the shareholders of the Editorial Montaner i Simón in to be built was the palace of Francisco Simón (unfortunately, this palace doesn’t exist anymore). Just next to him, Ramon Montaner, asked to the same architect,
Josep Domènech i Estapà to built his palace: the Palau Montaner.
Some misunderstanding between the architect and Ramón Montaner, makes that the work were finished by the famous modernist architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner. Upper
facade mosaic reads 1895, year in which the construction was finished .
The palace has only two floors of an eclectic Art Nouveau style mixed with Italian style. Highlights of house are the staircase of honor under a skylight, marble mosaics which
decorate the floor, sculptures, some of Eusebi Arnau and its gardens.
Since 1980 it houses the delegation of the Central Government in Barcelona, and is not possible to visit it anymore for free.
