A 32 street streetlight and benches designed by the architect Pere Falqués i Urpí and inaugurated on December 1906, are a total icon of the Paseo de Gracia. This two elements form one single piece, one for resting and the lamps for lighting the street and the sidewalks.
The benches are made with a white mosaic, formed with small pieces of ceramic stuck together with mortar (the famous “trecandis” typic from the Antoni Gaudí works) and the
street lamps are made of forged iron. In the middle of the street lamp there is another light in a spiral, so the light goes to the two points that need to be illuminated: the
road and the sidewalk. The decoration is beautiful, we can see fine beams, which are the skeleton of the street lamp. Combined with spirals or twisted from were plants formed open
leaves and flowers.
In the highest part of the street lamp appears the shield of the city crowned by the condal crown with a bat. It is a symbol to King James I, tells the legend that he was warned by
this animal when resting in his tent was surprised by his enemies.
