It was 1862 and the City Council, had not solved at that time the problem of drinking water supply to all homes for the Eixample district. It is when it was decided to ask the architect Josep Oriol Mestres to build a storage tower for drinking wate.
The Torre de les Aigües (Water Tower in English), is a hexagonal building of 24 meters high with capacity to store 730m³ of water. Although some years later, it is decided to increase
the height of the tower to ensure more water pressure.
In 1987, Barcelona City Council expropriated the land and converted it into the first island interior recovered as a public space in
the Eixample.
Thanks to this government action, this garden is transformed into a public pool that is the joy of the children of the neighborhood, who come every summer to cool off.
