CaixaForum, the Museum and Cultural Center of the Obra Social “La Caixa” is located in one of the most emblematic spaces of the city of Barcelona: the old Casarramona factory, a jewel of industrial modernism designed by the Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch.
This museum is located at the foot of the Montjuïc, just in front of
the Mies van der Rohe's Pavilion.
The businessman Casimir Casaromona commissioned this work to Puig i Cadaflach for which the architect received the Annual Artistic Building Award in 1913. The building is
also declared a historical monument of national interest in 1976.
After a long period of inactivity, in 1963 he acquired “La Caixa” and decided to give it a new function of a social, cultural and educational nature. Caixa Forum opened its doors in 2002,
giving life to one of the main modernist buildings in Barcelona
Since its inauguration Caixa Forum has become one of the most dynamic cultural spaces in the city. In its five exhibition halls, all kinds of activities are
carried out, such as: exhibitions of ancient, modern and contemporary art; concert, debates, conferences and literature cycles, among others.
