The Laribal Garden is located in the Montjuïc mountain, in the Sants-Montjuïc District. Its name comes from the old owner of the land, the journalist and republican politician Josep Laribal. In 1909 he went to the City Hall and between 1917 and 1924 they were built on the occasion of the International Exhibition of Barcelona in 1929. They are the work of Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier and Nicolau Maria Rubio i Tudí.
This garden is the first public rose window that was created in Barcelona, known as the "Colla de l’Arròs". They house several spaces such as the Generalife stairs,
which connect the Laribal Gardens with the Greek Theater Gardens,
the Joan Miró Foundation and the
Sculptures Garden.
Also here, you can find the famous "Fuente del Gato" (Cat Fountain) that its dispenser has a cat head shape, the work of Josep Antoni Homs. Next to the fountain the former
owner Josep Laribal built a neo-arabic villa, built by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. The villa is currently the headquarters of
the Montjuïc Park Welcome Center.
In the garden there are several sculptures that give it a more artistic look. Estival by Jaume Otero, a feminine nude in art-deco-style marble and the Joven de la
trenza by Josep Viladomat, among others.
