CANALETES FOUNTAIN
The Canaletes Fountain, located where the Las Ramblas joins with Catalunya Square, is one of the most emblematic points of Barcelona. This fountain was built in the nineteenth century to replace the previous one that was just a simple water channel, “canaleta” in the Spanish tongue. This “canaleta” gave not only the actual name of the fountain but also to the upper part of Las Ramblas: “La Rambla de Canaletas“.
This Canaletes Fountain is famous for two reasons:
The legend says that one that drinks water from this fountain always will keep in love with Barcelona and, although you might go away, you will
return to Barcelona some day. It might not be just a legend, it might be true. And there is no other way to prove it then trying, after all, what is

The second reason for its fame is that the Canaletes Fountain is the meeting point to celebrate the numerous- victories of Football
Club Barcelona, or Barça as the locals call it. This habit first was seen in 1930, when the fans of Barça went to the
Sports Daily newspaper just in front of the “Fuente de Canaletas” to check the results of the matches.
