In the old and historical building of San Agustín Convent on the Born Quarter is located the very popular Chocolate Museum.
On the centruy 15th, the chocolate were discovery on America and bring at Europe trhought the Barcelona’s port, from where it was distribuited over all Europe. The chocolate had a very
important role in the economy of Barcelona.
On the 18th century the Bourbon army was a fan and a big consumer of chocolate. Each militar had to eat chocolate in their menu according to the ordinances. The monarch’s bodyguard and the
halberdier corps were known as the “chocolateros”, because they, as elite corps, consumed a great quality of chocolate.
Here you can learn the history of chocolate, how it arrived to Europe and what status in our country it has taken. Also, you can learn about the nutritional value and medicinal that it has.
On the chocolate museum, the smell of chocolate is everywhere in the air and an you will crave for the piece that you received at the entrance.
Of course there is also a museum shop where you can buy chocolate and favour someone special at home with it.
