A serie of famous people leaning on their balconies, make this facade a unique and funny image.
When the Pablo Neruda Square was urbanized (very close to the Sagrada
Familia Basilica and the bullring la Monumental on the
Eixample District, the facade of this building
was “naked” and in sight.
Thanks to a campaign "Barcelona ponte guapa" ("Barcelona make yourself pretty" in English) organized by the city council, and the creativity of the French artist collective Cité de la Création, this
spectacular canvas was born, where famous people share talk from their balconies.
They are: on the rooftop Joaquín Blume and Cristóbal Colón; on the 5th floor Santiago Rusiñol; on the 4th floor Margarita Xirgu and Àngel Guimerà; on the 3rd floor Pompeu Fabra, Joan Maragall, Francisco Ferrer Guardia,
Ignacio Barraquer and Narciso Monturiol; on 2nd floor Antoni Gaudí, Ildefonso Cerdá, Francisco de Paula Rius y Taulet, Bartomeu Robert, Francesc Macià, Lluís Companys and Josep Tarradellas; on first floor Jacinto
Verdaguer, Carmen Amaya, Pablo Picasso, Joan Miró, Pau Casals, José Anselmo Clavé and Antonio Machín; and finnally on the basement Raquel Meller and Mercè Rodoreda.
Other facades that were renovated and are very nice to see are the Cats
Facade on the Raval Quarter and the
Objects Facade on
the Barceloneta Quarter.
