The convent of Santa Maria de Jonqueres, was located next to the Roman Walls and it was a beautiful gothic building with an amazing cloister. The expansion of Barcelona during the 19th century meant that this convent had to be demolished. It was when the authorities decided that the convent should be dismantled stone by stone and moved it to the new city area: the Right Eixample Quarter. In this way, the bourgeoisie, who were starting to live i this new area, got a place of worship.

The cloister, with its beautiful pointed arches and two-tiered gallery of stylised columns, is one of the largest in Barcelona. Some of decorative elements were added later, but still with this “extra elements”, the cloister keep doing a magnificent places to relax.
