Moritz is a Spanish beer brand, based in the Ronda de San
Antonio in Barcelona, just on the limit with
the Raval Quarter, created in 1856 by Frenchman of Alsatian origin,
Louis Moritz Trautmann, and relaunched in 2004
In 1856 Louis Moritz started to make his own beer and three years later he bought the factory of Joan Maurer, located in the street of the Portal of Santa Madrona
in Gothic Quarter becoming one of the most important producers in Barcelona. The demand
for beer increases and the business grows with the acquisition of more land. In a short time, the beer Moritz, gains a great prestige and in 1897 the Moritz Brewery is inaugurated.
The year 1920 Louis Moritz dies, but 2 years later his heirs create the “Moritz Brewery Factory, S.A.“.
After a few years of difficulty because of the Spanish Civil War, is the fifth and sixth generation of the family decide to relaunch the mythical brand on 2004.
That year Moritz again gains its prestige and high sales volume until it becomes a symbol of Barcelona.
Today, they have created a nice restaurante where you can eat some tipycal spanish’s dishes and drink the famous Moritz Bear.
