Between 1858 and 1888, the city council of barcelona will boost the coverage of a large part of the city’s markets, which until then were simple open spaces.

The construction of this market was in charge of Francesc Berenguer i Mestres, a regular collaborator of Antoni Gaudí, but as hi did not have an architect’s degree, all his works were always signed by some other architect. In this case was the architect Pasqual Tintorer who signed the project. In 2009 through an extension the building was renovated and therefore has a modern architecture consisting of wrought iron and ceramic tiles.

The Freedom Market offers a variety of products such as meat, sins, fruits, vegetables, plants and even products for the home and clothing.
