This market, born like all markets in Barcelona: outdoors. In this case, was in the Revolution Square where the farmers sold their products. Later the industrial Puig Martí decides to cover the market and it is inaugurated in 1892 under the name of Santa Isabel Market. Years later it is reconstructed and it is renamed as Mercat de l’Abacería (as reference of the food trade of Gràcia).

The Grocery Market is one of the most visited places in the neighborhood. Its fresh products, prices and its long history make this market a symbol of the hardworking and industrious Gràcia.

Like most of Barcelona’s markets, the Grocery has a metal structure and a brick-and-mortar closure; It is formed by three ships. Of the building they emphasize their roofs slightly curved. Currently the market is in the process of remodeling that will prepare it to face new challenges.
