The Joan Brossa Gardens are located on the top of Montjuic mountain. For 32 years, these lands were occupied by the old Montjuic Amusement Park. At the end of the nineties the park began its decline and also ended the municipal concession for the use of land. In 2000, Barcelona City Council decided to build public gardens, which allowed the renovation of a large part of the Montjuic area.
The gardens are an excellent example of the landscape and environmental recovery of a space by consolidating the existing vegetation landscape. The gardens of Joan Brossa invite to
the walk; It has three playgrounds for all ages, sunny areas, musical cushions that emit sounds when you step on them and also magnificent views of the city.
The green space is represented by poetry and sculpture. Following the tradition of dedicating the gardens of Montjuïc to Catalan poets (as Mossen Cinto Verdaguer,
Joan Maragall's Gardens and
Mossèn Costa i Llobera), the name of these are a tribute to the
poet Joan Brossa. In the main access you will find a plaque with a poem Musica d’arpa. As for sculptures, four of the old amusement park are preserved: "El Payaso" de Joaquim Ros i Sabaté; "Carmen Amaya" de Josep Cañas, "Charlot" de Nuria Tortras y
"Joaquim Blume" de Nicolau Ortiz.
